Back when I used to read comics, I had very few story lines that I kept up with. There was the required reading of the X-Men, Wolverine, and a couple others, but one that I enjoyed the most, was DeadPool.
DeadPool is not your average everyday super hero. He’s an almost unstoppable killer for hire. Almost as unstoppable as his skills is his mouth. To say DeadPool is a bit of a dick, would be an understatement. He’s a combination of Quagmire from Family Guy, and Wolverine. He is literally known as the “Merc with a mouth” but he also has the skills to back up the massive amount of shit he talks.
One of the things that DeadPool is most known for (besides his attitude) is that he breaks the 4th wall of comics all the time. He is fully aware that he is written into the pages of a book, and will make remarks to this on several occasions in any given story line. It’s a fun little joke that when done well, is effective. However, this could be a double edged sword. Placing a character like DeadPool into a video game could very likely destroy everything that is fun about him.
I have been on the fence about this game since it was announced, and still am at this moment. One of the writers for ComicVine.com recently got a look at the demo for the game and gave his impressions. Seeing as he has read more of DeadPool (any comics really) I am more likely to trust his judgement. Below is one of the trailers. It’s short, but it puts the character of DeadPool on display pretty well. The game is set to launch in June for $50. We’ll see.
