It’s almost inexplicable, the love that gamers from the late 80’s have for Duck Tails. I myself vividly playing the original NES game until I knew all the secrets and collected all the treasures. Finding out that there will be a “remastered” version of this game coming this summer makes this addiction flare up again. I’m fine with that.
The cartoon, while pretty much universally liked by kids from that era is almost over-shadowed by the love of the original NES game. The music was some of the most catchy chip-tunes from the system and I still find myself whistling the “Moon” and “Amazon” themes. I love this game. When I re-purchased my Nintendo Entertainment System a couple years ago, Duck Tails was one of the first games that I hunted down. Honestly it’s no wonder that the second game (DuckTails II) is so rare and sought after in certain circles.
Duck Tails Remastered is being redone by the fine folks at WayForward. Known for their super smooth animation and prowess in making 2-D games. Recently they released a reworked version of Double Dragon, and before that one of my favorite DS games Aliens: Infestation. While DD was not the best game I have played from them, it was a great attempt to try and bring back another franchise from those early NES days. Hopefully Duck Tails will be a break through hit and lead to more of my favorite games coming back (Goonies II, please).
Below is the reveal trailer for Duck Tails Remastered, coming to consoles this summer.
*warning, the theme song is still pretty catchy*
