Gamestop Apologizes… Sort Of

Though never really admitting any guilt or remorse, Gamestop has submitted an apology to the people it basically stole from. During last weeks Deus Ex Gate, as most now know, Gamestop proceeded to remove the free OnLive codes from the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Saying that it was not conveyed to them that they would be there, they removed it because it was a compeditors coupon.

Since then they have come forth and said they were going to offer up some goodies to the customers it cares nothing about, really. Here is the letter in it’s entirety and what you get if you purchased the PC version of Deus Ex and did not receive your free coupon.

“Dear GameStop customer,

Earlier this week, GameStop removed a competitor’s coupon from standard edition PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a recent release by Square Enix. We were not aware that the product box would contain this competitor’s offer. We regret the events surrounding this title release and that our customers were put in the middle of this issue between GameStop and Square Enix, the publisher of this game. And for this, we are truly sorry.

For your inconvenience, we would like to offer you a free $50 GameStop gift card and a Buy 2 Get 1 Free pre-owned purchase. We want to earn back your trust and confidence in the GameStop experience. Please bring in this email and your store receipt or order confirmation from GameStop.com and present it to a Game Advisor.

Sincerely, Paul Raines CEO, GameStop”

Basically they are saying they are sorry, not for stealing your coupon, but because they had to because of Square Enix’s mistake. This follows the apology last week from SE saying pretty much they were sorry to Gamestop for springing this on them at the last second. Seems like no one is willing to stand up to Gamestop.
