Goldeneye 007: Reloaded

There are few games out there that can divide a people so completely. Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64 was a masterful game at the time. It looked pretty good, was super fast (for the time) and allowed players to gather three of their friends together in one room and one tv to play at once. It easily sits high on a list of my (and probably a few others) favorite games of all time.
Remaking a classic game for so many people is a seriously dangerous undertaking. On the one hand you have nostalgic players that want nothing more than to revel in the memories they have of games past. On the other hand you have people that want to see what their favorite games would look like “up-rezzed” on new HD consoles. It’s a battle that will rage on until video games themselves are no more.
Goldeneye 007: Reloaded is a game that will definitely cause some tension between fans and developers, it already has, really. With last years release of the Wii game Goldeneye, fans were both happy to have a new version of their old favorite but upset to see that not only was it a Wii only game, but it had gone through several changes. Due to licensing contracts and likeness rights, Pierce Brosnan had been replaced with the now current Bond, Daniel Craig, and most of the other cast had been replaced with other familiar yet different looking character models. Some of the scenes had been changed, but the overall feel of the game stayed the same. It was fun, but nothing like it should have been. Goldeneye 007: Reloaded is basically an HD remake of the previous Wii game.
Straight from the press release:
GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is a contemporary James Bond experience featuring HD visuals and realistic environments running at 60-frames per second, akin to today’s elite action games. Additional to the legendary story campaign, the game introduces the brand new ‘Mi6 Ops Missions’ – new, distinct levels separate from the campaign that span the varied environments from the story and challenge players to complete different Assault, Elimination, Stealth and Defence objectives. GoldenEye 007: Reloaded also takes multiplayer to new heights, maintaining and improving its renowned four-player split-screen action and adding full, adrenaline-pumping 16-player online matches with more maps, weapons, characters and game modes than ever before.
According to the press release the game is due to hit the Playstation 3 (w/ Move support) and the Xbox 360 this fall. If that is true then they must have been working on this for a while. My best guess is that it will be pushed back.
