Another movie, another classic. I can remember bits and pieces of it but as a kid I don’t think I ever actually watched the whole thing. Definitely worthy of revisiting now that I am older.
Creepshow is another in the long line of horror movies that is a collection of short stories. With two huge names behind it like George Romero and Stephen King it has to be good. Most of the stories have the old “Tales from the Crypt” twist ending. I wouldn’t exactly call any of them scary, but they are a bit creepy for sure.
All of the short stories are completely self contained plots and have nothing to do with each other, EXCEPT for the fact that they all apparently are featured in a magazine with the same name as the movie itself. They all have their own famous actor/actress in them, even if you don’t know them by name you will know them by sight. People like Ed Harris, Adrianne Barbeau, Stephen King (in a hilarious role), Leslie Neilson, and Ted Danson just to name a few.
The final short story titled “They’re creeping up on you” is not only the funniest, but by far the creepiest of them all. E.G. Marshall plays a man living in an overly sterile apartment that begins to have a “bug problem”. As the story goes on it gets worse and worse. One thing in this world that creeps me out is bugs, and by the end of this one it was hard to watch.
It really was a fun trip down memory lane, and overall a pretty good movie even after all this time. This is one of those films that people usually refer to as going back to your roots for horror. It recently came out on BluRay, however I am not sure that this is one of those films that I personally could watch over and over again. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, I just don’t think I could watch the final story more than once a year. All in all it was a nice history lesson, and pretty interesting to see actors working slightly if not well out of their comfort zone.
