In the 80’s when “Metal” was king, a lot of young boys had dreams of meeting that perfect girl from one of those new “Music Videos”. Adam is one of those boys. Apparently while reading a book of lyrics written in French, he manages to bring one of these types of girls to life. Little does he know that she is a “murderous succubus”.
Dreamanic is really a hot pile of 80’s garbage. As Adam our main protagonist (I guess) manages to mysteriously make a woman appear out of thin air, it struck me that this was an attempt at a horror movie version of “Weird Science”, and a poor attempt at that. Most of the cast is meant to be portraying teenagers at some super hip party, but they are all probably in their mid to late thirties and the party is the most boring excuse for fun I have ever seen.
As Lily (our mystery girl) starts going around killing everyone the movie does pick up, a bit. Nothing I like more than seeing horrible stereotypes from the 80’s killed on film. Apparently according to some book in the movie, as she goes around “sleeping with men and killing them” they become her slaves. Which I guess would make more sense if she actually had sex with any of the dudes at the house. She seduced a couple, maybe kissed one, but much like Bill Clinton professed, blow-jobs don’t count.
As we get to the end of the film Adam has come around and realizes he has done a horrible thing, only too late. He is now under the control of Lily and the first thing he decides to do is stab himself, and then throw up blood all over the walls of the basement. As the final two girls make a run for it, a “Doctor” burst through the door and tells Lily not to kill them. He then proceeds to apologize for her actions, saying “I hope she didn’t cause to much trouble.” But wait… there’s more. Then we find out that all this was actually just taking place inside a story that Adam (apparently some screen-writer now) has written for a movie plot. He’s quite happy with himself as he describes everything to someone over the phone. But wait… there’s still more. As Adam goes to answer a knock at the door, a woman slashes his throat spilling blood all over his new screen play. Camera pans over, zooms in to see the title obscured by blood. The only words you can read are “Suc”. Yup… a fitting end to a movie that really did “Suc”.
*also still no idea why the “lady” on the box cover has no hair. in the movie she had a full head of hair.*
