Review: “Dude Bro Party Massacre III”

A cut above other spoof films.

It took me seven years since it was suggested to me, but I finally got around to watching this one. I’m sad it took me this long, but was it worth the wait?

Dude the Delta Bi fraternity has had some hard times. One of the brothers Brock is talking things over with his therapist. He has seen so many terrible things happen to this fellow bros in response to their frant pranks that it has really messed him up. As she spills his guts to the therapist he reveals that his twin brother, and he hopes that his twin won’t be hunted down by the evil “Motherface” that has murdered all his bros. Sadly for him, he’s dead wrong.

Brent (identical twin to Brock) has joined the Delta Bi fraternity so that he can hunt down his brothers killer. He meets his new bros and they immediately mesh together. However after another “prank” goes bad and the group takes down a commuter jet, the Dean of the school sends them away to the lake house(?). Mother face then kills the Dean immediately. She then chases after the rest of the DB fraternity murdering them one by one on her quest to get Brent.

Honestly, I went into this movie thinking that I was going to roll my eyes and hate it, I came out the other end actually impressed and I wish there was more of it. This is a new kind of twist on the “found footage” style of film. Instead of “hey we found reels of film we cut together to make a movie” DBPM3 is presented as a lost copy of a film that was destroyed. It’s made and presented like it was recorded off television on someone’s old VHS tapes. There’s weird family clips and commercials spliced inbetween sections of the actual film. Weirdly it created a more creepy vibe than most of the found footage films I’ve seen in the last 10 years.

Dude Bro Party Massacre III is a parody movie done right. There aren’t any winks and nods to the camera, no “ripped from the headlines” moments and no direct homages to other films. Yes, it in and of itself is a throwback to the slasher films of the 70s and 80s but it’s a joke presented in a serious way. The acting is terrible, as is the writing, and the effects but that is by design. It took me like six years to watch this thing and I already want to go back and watch it again. Knowing what you are getting into, I highly recommend it.
