Somewhere, at some point Abigail Breslin decided she wanted to take a stab at action movies, and personally, I think who ever green lit that idea is great.

Little Veronica lost her parents at an early age, and is immediately “recruited” by a man known only as “William” to train with him. Over the next twelve years, William trains Veronica to be your basic, everyday, secret agent style, assassin. He puts her through many tests. Shows her any number of ways to fight and defend herself, and teaches her how to harden herself to pain, and emotion. When her training is complete, William has a job for her to do. Twelve years later in somewhere-ville America, four teenaged boys, Jameson, Danny, Shane and Nelson, sit in a diner late at night. One of the boys, Jameson, spots a new waitress. She’s slim, attractive, and more importantly blonde. Jameson asks her out on a date. She politely agrees. What she doesn’t know is that these boys only like to take their dates to the middle of the woods and then hunt them. William knows of these boys late night hunts, and he has trained Veronica to be their next, and final, “victim”. Let me first say that I really liked this movie. It’s set in or around the 1960s, it’s got style for days, and is just well done pretty much all around. All of the acting is really great. It’s smartly written, and the plot never gets bogged down in itself to the point of being slow. That being said, there are a few plot holes that I never really understood. Did William know about the boys prior to training Veronica? What else has or is she going to do with her training? And the final line of the movie… it was delivered as though it had some weight or meaning, but I didn’t get it. Maybe that one is on me. I actually watched Final Girl as a mistake. What I intended to watch was Final Girls… with an “s” at the end. I mistyped it, and am kinda glad that I did. Abigail Breslin is a beautiful girl, and she is the perfect cover for someone that is supposed to be a brutal, assassin without conscience. As I said, this movie has a lot of style, and I loved it mostly for that. From the way it is lit, to the blocking, and even the time period it is (apparently) taking place in. It may not be the horror movie I had hoped for, but it is one that I am glad I stumbled upon anyway.
