Before I started watching Gallowwalkers, I was hard pressed to think of a single “western” horror movie. After watching it, I’m not sure that they need to exist, really.

When a man shoots and kills another man, he expects them to stay dead. Aman sought revenge for the killing of his girlfriend, Sueno. He hunted down the gang responsible for raping and killing her. Found them in a jail, and shot each and every one of them. However, as Aman was leaving the jail, he too was shot. Later, while riding across the desert, he dies, only to be resurrected by his mother whom made a pact with, god or the devil (it’s really not explained all that well.) As penance for Aman being brought back to life, his mother is told (by a voice in the sky) that her son will live again, however, so will all those that he has slain. This is the backstory to his fight against “Kansas” and his gang a second time. Aman chases down Kansas and his “Gallowwalkers” as they search for Aman, and skin any human in their path for viable new skin to live in. Gallowwalkers was ambitious beyond its limitations. This movie happened to fall right in the middle of all of Wesley Snipes tax troubles. It took about eight years to put a final product out. Besides that, the plot is a mess of unexplained events, amid decent acting, writing, and a stylish western vibe. There could have been a great movie in here, had it been done with a tighter grip on the plot. It has style. It looks good. Even the writing and the acting was good enough to be passable. Personally, I think Gallowwalkers just suffers from too many people touching the film over too long a time. It’s just not coherent or concise enough to be a recommendable movie.
