Wow, I can’t really believe it… two in a row. This was just a random movie that I picked on Netflix to pad out my list. Much to my surprise (again) this movie actually turned out to be really good.
Hide and Creep is a story about the town of Thornsby, in Alabama. Thornsby is a small town, with a big problem… Zombies. The story follows Chuck and Keith, as well as several others as they try to figure out what is going on, and how to escape it. Oh and there also may be a problem with alien abduction, it IS the South after all.
Hide and Creep is best described as a zombie film that feels like it was written by Kevin Smith. That is probably the best compliment that I can give both the director and the movie it self. The dialog is well written and spoken, maybe a little TOO well spoken, meaning that it feels a bit over rehearsed. I know that seems a little nit-picky but it really is about the only thing I can say wrong about a movie on this scale of budget. Sure the “special effects” aren’t that special but they work well enough.
Hide and Creep does take a more comedic look at the zombie infestation, but not over the top slap sticky kind of comedy. Think of it as a more low budget version of Shaun of the Dead, made in America. This is not a movie that will appear on anyones radar at any point, it stars no one you have heard before, and takes place in a town I didn’t know existed. That said, when I finished the movie on netflix I was very interested to find out if it was available for purchase. It would be interesting to see if the special features included give more insight into how this film was made.
If you have Netflix, I would suggest adding this one to, at the very least, your instant queue. Totally worth a watch. Again, I am just as surprised as anyone that I have now recommended seeing two movies in a row.
