Sometimes a movie I see during this marathon defies all expectations and words. I will do my best to describe whatever this is so you don’t have to watch it.
Joe is a brave astronaut headed out into space for a test mission. He is testing out a ship that can create it’s own gravity with the help of an experimental drive engine full of dangerous and deadly radioactive sludge. All goes well until Joe’s spacecraft travels through an asteroid shower. As Joe plummets to certain doom, all his control room and wife can do is wait for him to be destroyed in the impact.
At the site of the crash, a couple rushes in to see if they can help whomever might be inside the downed craft. What they find is not quite human, and definitely no looking for help. Scientist show up to run some tests and see what exactly came from the craft. They come to the realization that it was Joe, in fact, that came out but no the same Joe that went in. He is now a mutated killing machine in the form of a giant, grotesque, and murderous sloppy joe sandwich.
A man goes into space in an experimental rocket ship a hero and … well comes back one as well. I mean he’s a sandwich. That’s the joke.
This movie, shot presumably over a weekend (though the trailer says 36 months), feels like a great joke stretched to fill an hour and thirteen minute run time. While there are bits in here that did make me laugh out loud and some of the dumb jokes land well, it’s the bulk of the film that weighs it down from being truly novel and funny. Would I recommend anyone actually watch this film for any of those fleeting funny parts; No. This is a Troma film without any dick and fart jokes.
