Review: Ninjas Vs Vampires

ninjas-vs-vampires-01

I have learned of the past year to expect the unexpected when it comes to movies on Netflix. The movie industry is truly one of those things that proves the saying “Never judge a book by its cover”. This can totally be said for movie boxes. Right now, take the time to do a google image search for “ninjas vs vampires”. All those posters, character shots, and box shots (giggity) would lead you to think that the production value found in the movie would be pretty high. This is, of course, a fallacy. I really wish they had spent some of that money IN the movie not just promoting it.

Ninjas vs Vampires is about a guy in love with a girl. He will do anything to protect the one that he loves though from the very outset of the movie, it is clear she doesn’t feel the same way for him. When they are attacked by “Vampires” and are saved just before death by “Ninjas” the story takes a bit of a twist, I guess. I have to be honest, I really don’t remember any of the characters names. The girl gets her mind wiped, and the dude then becomes a ninja to protect himself and her from the vampires that are trying to now kill them. There are a bunch of fight scenes, lots of green-screen deaths, and honestly, not a whole lot of blood for a vampire movie.

From the very beginning I knew this movie would be trouble. I honestly stopped counting the one-liners ripped from other movies at around 20 or so. It became a game to just name what movie they were taking them from, and trying to guess what would be next. Seriously, everything from Batman, to Star Wars, maybe even a Bruce Lee movie in there somewhere. My favorite part was the “training session” where one guy was “teaching” the other how to be a ninja. I say “teaching” because there was never a lesson of “do this not that” it was just two guys beating up on one until I guess he all of a sudden knew kung fu (whoa!).

I loved the fact that the ninjas lived in a three bedroom house in the burbs, and the vampires had a slightly larger house that had a basement (aka abandoned warehouse) that was the size of a football field. Found with in this movie is both the “Wilhelm Scream” and the “Slow Clap” so congrats on being able to stuff both in your film.

I give credit to the entire team involved with this movie, I have never had a movie produced and put out on video. For that, I tip my hat. However there are some things they can learn from actually watching the movies they are actively ripping off. I would like to say that I won’t have to worry about this movie ever again, however, they apparently have made a sequel called “Ninjas Vs Zombies”. It’s not on Netflix yet, but I am willing to bet it will be soon. My only guess for a further sequel is “Ninjas Vs Pirates” since “Alien Vs Ninja” is already taken.
