Review: “Pinocchio’s Revenge”

The wide range of puns and bad jokes that I wanted to write up for this opening sentence is mind-boggling. Let’s say that it’s a bit stiff, and that’s no lie.

Jennifer is a defense attorney for some of the scummiest people out there. One of her clients she is currently defending is on trial for murdering his own son. She believes that he didn’t do it because the evidence doesn’t support it. He claims that he did and he wants to die because of his horrific act. After his death, the DA (inexplicably) takes some evidence home with her. One of those things happens to be a hand-carved Pinocchio doll. Her daughter becomes quickly attached to the doll and doesn’t want the mother to take it back to work.

After a couple of days with the doll, the daughter starts to hear the doll talking to her, and telling her things. She starts to see Pinocchio do horrible things. At first, he causes a girl to crash her bike in front of a bus, then he pushes Jennifer’s boyfriend down the stairs. Later he goes to the hospital and finishes the job. The daughter then realizes that it’s up to her to stop Pinocchio from his murderous rampage.

This movie started off as the opposite of the movie Childs Play, then it went weird, and fell off a cliff. I liked that Pinocchio was a killer puppet, that part will never not be funny. Seeing a wooden boy sort of attempt to murder people is kind of hilarious. However, the movie starts to make you think that the girl is looney. Then it ends and you are given no closure. This isn’t the worst of it though.

Pinocchio’s Revenge never explains anything about itself. There is no explanation of the killings. No explanation of why the original guy buried the doll with his son. There is no explanation of why the doll is out for revenge. Close to the end of the film, we’re made to think that the doll is actually not even there but a hallucination. I guess. It makes no sense and again, it doesn’t explain ANYTHING. I can’t recommend watching this movie frankly because it will make you mad. At least it did me.
