Review: “Sorority House Massacre 2”

SHM1

Sorority House Massacre is either one of the most poorly executed sequels to a movie (besides Halloween 3) or it is the work of geniuses. Hang on tight folks, this is going to get bumpy.

So let’s get the formalities out of the way. Sorority House Massacre 2 stars a bunch of scantily clad women, with large chests, running around a house trying to escape certain death at the hands of a demented killer. The girls bought a house to start their sorority in, and lucky for them, they got it super cheap. Why? because years prior (5 I think the movie says) it was the site of a brutal killing. In this house (pay attention this is important) a family was slain by a killer that went by the name Clive Hoksteder. The neighbor found the slain family and ratted out Clive. Clive was then sent to prison and died there.

The girls move in, or rather show up to clean the place and get ready for the sorority house grand opening… I don’t know. Anyway, after showing up they realize they won’t have any furniture, or a phone for a couple days. So, they do the only thing that comes natural (apparently) and all slip into the smallest, most 80s styled lingerie they can, and perform a seance with a Ouiji board. Whom should they attempt to contact, why not ol’ Hoksteder. There’s a lot of screaming, boobs, and then everyone starts dying.

Now that you know what the movie is about, I’ll just give my review in short. It’s a pretty terrible slasher movie. It’s predictable, it’s full of nonsense, boobs, more nonsense, and blood. If you are just looking for a movie with girls in loose fitting outfits running up and down stairs, Slumber Party Massacre 2 has you covered.

The story of Sorority House Massacre 2 is by far the most interesting thing about it. I know this may sound weird, but I have been thinking about this story for days now. Not because it was deep, it showed great character development, or it was well written. No. It’s because it is the most baffling sequel I think I have ever seen. Here’s why; Sorority House Massacre 2, the sequel to the first of the same name, not only references events from SLUMBER Party Massacre, but shows clips (in a flashback) directly from the first SLUMBER Party Massacre.

The story of how a family was slain in the house was completely made up. It never happened, or rather, it did, but not at all in the way that was described in SH2. In Sorority House Massacre (the first one) a family is killed by a bobo version of Michael Myers. He kills his family, then comes back years later to attempt to kill his sister, who happens to be part of a sorority. HOWEVER, the images they show on screen during this flashback of exposition were scenes taken directly from Slumber Party Massacre 1. They even go so far as to show the killer using a giant drill (which he did) instead of showing the supposed killer using a knife to murder his family (like he did in Sorority House Massacre). Even the name “Hoksteder” was completely fabricated. At no point do they name the killer in Slumber Party Massacre, and in Sorority House Massacre 1, the killer’s name is Bobby. Seriously.

I’m still not sure how any of this could have happened. I even went so far as to discuss the plot and how it is told with a friend of mine that writes sitcoms. Thinking as a person paid to write, maybe he could help me figure it out. The best explanation that we could come up with is that very VERY late in the editing process someone noticed that they had cut in scenes from the wrong massacre movie, and just said “Fuck it. Let’s leave it all in.” That’s honestly the best we could come up with. So, if you really want to confuse your friends, watch Sorority House Massacre one and two back to back. That outta be fun.

ps. Not sure if it was also a stroke of genius or just an inside joke, but in the first shower scene, each time the girl touches her breasts a sound effect plays that sounds like a dogs chew toy. It’s not really pronounced, but it is there.
