Review: “Splatter University”

maxresdefault-1

For a movie about a university, there really wasn’t a lot about the school. Then again, when you make a movie in two weeks, you shouldn’t expect much, I guess. A mental patient has just killed a doctor in an institution and walked out a free man after assuming his identity. (Movie A) Julie is a new teacher at St. Trinians College. She has taken over the social studies class after the teacher she’s replacing was murdered, on campus, in her classroom. Father Jensen asks Julie if she is okay with being in this classroom and she gleefully says she is fine with it. Julie then meets Mark, another teacher at the College, and they start a relationship. Soon after, the murders start up again. Suspicions run rampant as everyone tries to figure out who is killing girls around campus, and more importantly, why

. Splatter University was made in 1984 over the course of two weeks, and it shows. There are so many issues with this film, but before we get into those, I will say that I admire them for making a grand attempt of producing what could have been a better than average slasher film.

My biggest problem with Splatter “University” is that it takes place at a “College”. It would have taken mere seconds to look at the slate for your film and realize you had either miss titled it, or needed to change the captions found there in. Also, the story is so careless that it’s easy to spot how the film with wrap, almost from the very beginning. I see the big reveal they were attempting to spring on the audience, and they really wanted it to be a surprise, but it just isn’t. At no point during the movie did I think the filmmakers had pulled one over on me.

Splatter University is grainy, hamfisted, ridiculous slasher film. Having said that, and all of the problems I have with it, it’s not that bad, for what it is. That doesn’t make it a good movie, I’m just okay with it being bad for the reasons it is. Though I am still trying to figure out how this reference to the timeline works…
