Months ago we (as gamers) were asked to vote on what games should be inducted into the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The categories weren’t limited to just what games would win for what system, but for what genre, and what time/technological period of gaming. Though I am a little confused why the category “Next Generation” was used. Seems like that kind of dates it self already considering the winners.
Earlier today the Smithsonian released the results of those votes and now we get to see what will be forever known as the best of what was, and IS video games. You can find the entire list here.
Personal Favorites would have to be:
Combat/Strategy – Combat for Atari
Target – 1943 For NES
Target – Goldeneye for N64
Adventure – Shenmu for Sega Dreamcast
There were several surprises in the list, however. I wasn’t expecting Spy Vs Spy or Brutal Legend to be listed in there. It makes for a good read none the less.
It’s worth noting that five additional games, that were not part of the public vote, will be available for play for “a few minuets” as well. Those games are:
Pac-Man – Arcade
Super Mario Brothers – Nintendo Entertainment System
Secret of Monkey Island – PC
Myst – PC
World of Warcraft – PC
Props to Bill for finding this for me. I totally forgot that it was coming.
