Taking it back with a classic for number three. Always a crowd pleaser, and still makes me wish I could have seen this one in the theater (was it in the theater) back in the day.
#3 The Evil Dead
Sam Rami’s classic was bound to make an appearance on the list, so why not get it out of the way now. This movie was made on a shoestring budget, and it shows. Watching it as an adult is hilarious because of all the inconsistencies in the cinematography. There is more gratuitous blood in this movie than almost all the modern day blood baths. Despite it being pretty campy it still is a great movie. It’s as much psychological thriller as it is horror. The main character Ash, played by a very young Bruce Campbell, losses it and I’m pretty sure never finds it again. Also I guess I never noticed that there is a “tentacle rape” scene in this movie, maybe Sam was ahead of his time here, I dunno. If you have never seen this movie before then you should probably watch it or the sequel Evil Dead 2. Which is basically just a remake of the first only with more humor and a slightly larger budget. Either way you watch it, just know going in that it’s more about the over the top gore and psychology than anything. You will probably laugh more than you will be scared. Still… it’s a great movie.
