The Gate

Yet another movie from my childhood that scared the bejesus out of me. Watching it again now as an adult, I am a little ashamed of the previous statement.

#12 The Gate

gate

The Gate stars a young Stephen Dorff as “Glenn” a kid with an apparent love of all things model rocket. He and his buddy “Terry” accidentally open up a gate way into hell, basically. Terry figures out what is going on by reading the liner notes in an alb

um  his “dad brought back from Europe.” All kinds of bad things start to happen and Glenn is forced to use his favorite model rocket to destroy the “Demon Lord” and save the world. Yeah… that’s pretty much the entire movie. You gotta love a movie that has a main cast of literally less than ten people. I honestly don’t know why I was so scared of the movie in the first place. The one scene where his parent come home in the middle of the night and then end up trying to kill him, because they aren’t actually his parents, probably had a lot to do with it. Watching this one is a lot like cartoons from your childhood that you thought were totally bad ass, and you had nothing but good memories of. Then you watch them again now, wondering what the hell you were thinking and it ruins all those memories. If you have never seen it before try it out, it’s cheesy and short. If you have fond memories of this movie from when you were a kid, hang on to those and don’t let them go. You won’t like what you see through adult eyes.
